1.    HOW DOES A PROPHET RELATE TO AND HEAR GOD FOR HIMSELF:

God wants to communicate. He wants to reveal His heart to us. (Hebrews 1:1 ? 2) ?God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds??

The secret things belong to God (Deut. 29:29) ?The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.?

The revealed things belong to us. Our Father chooses to reveal many things to us. He does not want to keep secrets. He wants us to know so that we may do.

A.            GOD?S PURPOSE FOR PROPHETS:

1. Prophets  participate in all God?s plans. Amos 3:7 ? ?Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.?

2. Prophets are special to God. Psalm 105:15 - Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm."

3. Prophets prepare the way for Christ?s second coming: Malachi 4:5 ? ?Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.?

Luke 1:16-17: ?And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, 'to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

4. Prophets prepare the Church. Acts 20:28 ? ?Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. ?

B.            HEARING COMES RELATIONSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP:

1. Our relationship with God leads to us hearing Him. Genesis 18:17&19.

17 And the Lord said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him."

There is a difference between relationship and fellowship. God speaks differently to both of these. For example ? the prodigal son ? he left home but was always a son. He lost fellowship when he went away but was still in relation. When we trust God to forgive our sins and enter into a love relationship with Christ, our salvation is secure and held onto by God Himself. Yet, even though our relationship is secure, our fellowship with God tends to waiver up and down as we live life as a new creation ?in Christ?. Another modern day term for fellowship is ?Doing life?. God want to do life with us.

2.       HOW DOES A PROPHET RELATE TO AN APOSTLE:

Ezra 1:1 ?Now in the first year of Cyrus King of Persia, that the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus King of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing??

In the book of Ezra the Lord reveals some apostolic characteristics in Cyrus life.

Jeremiah is clearly the Prophet and King Cyrus, the apostle. Isaiah also prophesied concerning Cyrus revealing further proof of his function bearing similar characteristics to that of an apostle. Isaiah 44:28

A.      The Lord organises and directs apostles and prophets along with the personnel that will help to finish the job.

B.      Apostles fulfill the prophecies that Prophet?s prophesy

C.      Building prospered through the prophesying of the prophets while the apostle takes a prophecy into the realm of the command.

Apostles make the prophecies reality! This is that! Acts 2:16 - But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

3.       HOW DOES A PROPHET RELATE TO A PROPHET:

Although prophets differ in many ways they need to work together for the equipping of the saints, to bring God?s purpose and plans to fruition while working and alongside the Body which they are serving. These differences should not be seen as a threat to each other but rather as a complimentary.

Example of different prophets working together in unity:

Haggai and Zechariah worked in unity to fulfill a decree made by King Cyrus. They aroused Israel to turn back to God by rebuking and exhorting them to continue the work despite many challenges. The work prospered through their prophesying.

Warning to prophets ? 1 Kings 13:1-26

Prophets do not do their own thing ? they obey the commands of the Word of the Lord.

Prophets do not believe everything they hear ? they learn to discern (test the spirits)

Prophets do not run on another prophet?s word alone ? it must be confirmed and judged

Prophets do not make idols of authority ? they submit to God?s authority

Prophets do not go out of their rank (place) ? they deprive the Body

Prophets do not prophesy out of their own mind and heart (foolish prophets ):

Ezekiel 13:2-3 - Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD;

Prophets should be recognised by their fruits and not only by the accuracy of their gifting. Matthew 7:15-16 and prophets are not to put their faith in every spirit, but test the spirits to discover whether they proceeded from God, for many false prophets have gone forth into the world ? John 4:1

2 Timothy 3:16: Trust the Word that is in you. It must line up with scripture. God is accurate. Not this or that guy is sharp. Just give what you got and God will do the miracle. Prophecy is an instructional manual. God want us to trust Him in simplicity. Don?t compare yourself with others. Don?t think that the word you have received is too small or insignificant. Don?t always say ?The Lord told me?- that shows pride ? stay in your level of authority. Know when you are walking in an office or when you are walking in a gift.

4.       HOW DOES A PROPHET RELATE TO AN EVANGELIST:

Prophets and Evangelists are co labourers along with the rest of the 5 fold ministry to spiritually equip the saints in their specific membership ministry in the Body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-16.

o   Prophets can function even if they are not accepted or honoured. They do not need human response to operate effectively in their office.

o   The evangelist though is susceptible to spiritual attack without the prayers and the encouragement of the greater Church Body.

o   Prophets can be used as fish finders directing the evangelist as to where he will get the best catch of souls for the Lord. Remember when Jesus told His disciples where to drop their nets.

o   The evangelist has great wisdom in winning souls. (Proverbs 11:30) and they are fishers of men. They depend upon the Lord to move fish into the gospel net as they let down the right gospel bait.

o   Prophets will be inspired (illuminated) preachers of the Word of God. (Hebrews 1:1). They will have divine revelation given to them concerning the church.

o   The Evangelist should inspire the general body of saints to be involved in evangelism in declaring the good news of the Kingdom. They are to stir the saints to personal evangelism as a well as equip and release others with evangelist?s gifts.

o   The prophet?s sphere of ministry is to those who want a closer relationship with God. Often times God will reveal something to them that they can warn the saints of coming danger and in this way they can be prepared ahead of time of time for what will transpire.

o   The Evangelist sphere of ministry is to the unsaved world. Warning the sinners of the coming judgment. He is the messenger and bearer of glad tidings to the lost and dying world.

o   The prophet lay down the foundation of God?s purpose and destiny in each life and they prophesy to the believers showing them the different aspects of kingdom living.

o   The evangelist gives birth to babies. They think like a midwife. They are set in to draw in new converts and their responsibility ends immediately after the arrival of the baby.

o   The prophets are people of revelation of the ultimate purpose of God. They speak to the believers their potential in Christ and they use the revelation of God?s word to motivate the believers. Their desire is to see each leader arise to the challenges of their vision.

o   The evangelist?s function of bringing the saints to a place of effective evangelism and helping equip them to evangelise and make them what they should be in God. They bring God?s salvation into a city so that the church can be built with an additional harvest of souls. They perform miracles with the view to see greater doors for effective ministry in the region.

o   Unless the evangelist works together with the prophet and the rest of the five-fold much of the new ground and the harvest reaped will be ultimately lost.
